Isla San Lucas

"The Paradise" "The beach at Playa el Coco
San Lucas Island is a very special place in Costa Rica. For over 100 years it was home to a brutal prison, often compared to Alcatraz, and Devil's Island. Since the prison closed in 1992, the Island has been off-limits to visitors. Now Samantha Tours have been given permission to run a One-day Tour to the Island. The tour departs daily from San Jose, and additional passengers can join the tour in Puntarenas. We tour the old prison buildings in the morning, and after a freshly prepared lunch, we spend an afternoon on the beach at the beautiful Playa El Coco. we sail back to Puntarenas via the south of the island so that passengers can enjoy enchanting sea views, as the sun sets in the west.
During your time on the Island you will encounter a variety of local wildlife. The Cong monkeys (Howlers) are very common, and because the island has been isolated for so long, they are not really used to people. They will usually continue feeding (or dozing) while you go past.
This really is very special day, and one that you should not miss.
